On October 31, the president signed a law in Uzbekistan prohibiting the promotion of polygamy and the use of face-covering in public places. The act made amendments and additions to the codes of criminal and administrative responsibility. An amendment to the code of administrative responsibility causes a fine of 15 to 30 times BHM (4,950,000 to 9,900,000) between persons whose marriage is not recorded in the manner prescribed by law, including performing a religious ceremony involving marriage with a person under the age of marriage.

Promoting married life with two or more wives, spreading views, ideas or calls of this content, as well as encouraging such behavior, causes fines of 15 to 30 times BHM (4,950,000 to 9,900,000) or administrative imprisonment of up to 15 days.

Being face-blocked in public places to the point where identity is impossible causes a fine between 10 times and 15 times that of BHM (3,300,000 to 4,950,000).

Except for wearing a special headdress worn mainly or for safety in traffic or in cases related to Labor and service activities, or having the participants of these events face-blocked during the holding of sports and cultural events, as well as being face-blocked in other cases directly permitted by law.

Promoting gender discrimination, including outright denial of women's and men's equality, spreading views, ideas or calls of this content, as well as publicly justifying and (or) encouraging such behavior, causes fines of 10 times to 20 times BHM (3,300,000 to 6,600,000).

The law comes into force from the date of its official publication.
