On September 21, Dushanbe will host the first meeting of the High-Level Working Group on the new multimodal corridor “Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey,” which will connect China and Turkey through the countries of Central Asia and the Middle East. The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reports this.
The meeting will discuss how to develop and popularize this international transit corridor in order to increase freight volumes and simplify trade procedures, especially for those countries that are landlocked.
It is expected that, along with high-ranking officials of the ministries of transport of the countries participating in the corridor, the meeting will be attended by the head of the marketing research department of logistics and freight lines of Demiryollary OJSC Begli Soyunov, as well as the head of the department of foreign economic relations and contracts of Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan OJSC Aimyrat Shiriev.
The goal of the multimodal corridor “Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey” is to increase the volume and speed of cargo transportation between China and Turkey, as well as strengthen economic cooperation and food security in the region.
The project involves the use of different modes of transport, such as rail, road, sea and air. To implement it, it is necessary to build and modernize transport infrastructure in the participating countries, as well as introduce digital technologies to simplify customs procedures and control cargo flows.
