On September 30, a dispute broke out between pilots on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, during which one pilot attacked the other with a knife. As a result of the incident, the aircraft made an emergency landing in the Saudi Arabian city of Tabuk.
There were 174 passengers on board, the majority of whom were Israeli citizens.
During the flight, the crew transmitted the 7700 code, followed by the 7500 code, which signals unlawful interference or a hijacking. The aircraft underwent a rapid descent.
The pilot who was stabbed has been identified as Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national. Despite his injuries, he managed to open the cockpit door.
Subsequently, a passenger named Yaniv Hayun, along with other passengers, entered the cockpit and helped subdue the attacking pilot. Two pilots who were traveling as passengers then took control of the aircraft and landed it safely at Tabuk Airport.
Israeli officials have suggested that the attacking pilot may have intended to deliberately crash the plane and are investigating the possibility that the incident was a terrorist attack. However, the exact cause of the attack and the suspect's motive have not yet been officially disclosed. Smith Machchxar was taken to the hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable. The second pilot has been detained and is being questioned by Saudi Arabian law enforcement authorities.
