On September 14 of this year, the delegation headed by Senate Chairman Tanzila Norboyeva took part in an extraordinary meeting of the dialogue of leading women of Central Asian countries, held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, on the topic "Achieving gender equality in the context of climate change adaptation in Central Asia".

The dialogue of leading women of Central Asian countries, which is considered a regional platform, was founded in December 2020 on the initiative of Uzbekistan. In 2021, the country chaired the dialogue.

At the meeting, issues such as creating a platform that will ensure future constructive cooperation on achieving gender equality in the context of climate change and expanding the opportunities of all women and girls, and developing strategies and programs aimed at effective solutions to current problems were in the center of discussions. The parties exchanged ideas, information and experience.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Senate said that Central Asia is currently experiencing the negative effects of global climate change more than many other regions of the world, which, in turn, will lead to shortage of water resources, melting of glaciers and desertification processes. noted that it is accelerating.

"The drying up of the Aral Sea and the emergence of the Orolkum salt desert in the dry bottom caused complex ecological and socio-economic problems in the region. "It is for this reason that the UN General Assembly recognized the tragedy of the island as a global environmental problem of our time," he said.

T. Norboyeva also touched on the activities of the dialogue of leading women of Central Asia: "This structure has become an important platform for the development of proposals that are in high demand in terms of ensuring gender equality. In a short time, the dialogue was recognized and seriously supported by the heads of states, as well as the UN and its specialized agencies, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the SCO, the CIS and other international organizations.

In the working plan of the dialogue, an initiative was taken to study environmental problems in the region and to develop specific proposals and recommendations for their solution, taking into account gender aspects. It was proposed to further advance the gender agenda in a multilateral format in order to eliminate environmental risks, and attract investments from international financial institutions.
