A 6-year "5+1" bachelor's degree program in medicine will be introduced in Uzbekistan.

The system for training medical specialists in Uzbekistan is set to change. According to a presidential decree, a six-year general medicine bachelor's degree program based on the "5+1" model will be introduced starting from the 2027/2028 academic year.
Under this system, students will study for five years and complete a full year of practical training during their sixth year. Graduates will qualify as general practitioners and be eligible to work as family doctors.
Additionally, a mandatory one-year practical training period during the final year will be implemented across all medical bachelor's degree tracks.
For specialized medical fields, the system will shift to residency training. Starting in the 2027/2028 academic year, the training of medical specialists will be conducted exclusively through residency programs, and admissions to clinical residency programs will cease.
Consequently, the training of medical specialists via master's degree programs will be discontinued; master's programs will instead focus primarily on training personnel for research, teaching, and management roles.
A residency program in family medicine will also be established starting from the 2026/2027 academic year. Students enrolled in residency programs on a state grant basis will receive a stipend.
Non-state medical and educational organizations will also be permitted to launch residency programs using their own funds.
