In the Tashkent region, a young man who distributed religious chants via Telegram was replaced by the conditions of serving his sentence with restriction of freedom.

According to the press service of the Supreme Court, the defense of the convicted person filed an appeal, asking the court to change the verdict to acquittal, given that the convicted person is positively characterized at the university where he studies, his family circumstances and sincere remorse for what he did.

The Judicial Board of the Supreme Court for Criminal Cases, in accordance with the decision of the cassation instance of July 28, 2023, changed the court decision issued against the convicted person. In particular, the deprivation of liberty was replaced with a punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a period of 3 years according to paragraph "d" of part 3 of Article 244-1 of the Criminal Code (Production, storage, distribution or demonstration of materials containing a threat to public safety and public order using mass media or telecommunications networks, as well as the world information network Internet) with the application of Article 57 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (The appointment of a more lenient punishment).

Considering that the convicted person spent 5 months and 4 days under arrest, namely from February 24 to July 28, 2023, this time is subject to deduction in accordance with article 62 of the Criminal Code, leaving 2 years 6 months 26 days of restriction of freedom for serving the sentence.

The convict was told that he was forbidden to leave his place of residence from 22:00 to 06:00. After that, he was released from custody in places of execution of punishments.
