9 workers killed in Colombia mine explosion

According to the National Mining Agency of Colombia, 9 workers died and 6 others were injured as a result of an explosion at a coal mine in the province of Cundinamarca.
The incident occurred on May 4. Officials stated that the explosion was caused by a build-up of gas and took place at a mine operated by the "Carbonera Los Pinos" company while workers were at a depth of at least 600 meters. The Governor of Cundinamarca, Jorge Emilio Rey, reported that while 12 people were initially said to be trapped, three of them managed to escape.
It was revealed that the National Mining Agency had warned a few weeks ago about the potential danger of gas accumulation in the mine.
Rescuers are currently working at the scene, and the injured have been taken to the hospital.
