The Road Safety Service reported that 563 traffic accidents involving mopeds and scooters occurred in Uzbekistan between January and September of this year. These accidents resulted in 488 injuries and 89 fatalities.

Additionally, nearly 300 traffic violations by moped and scooter riders were recorded in 2025. In the first nine months of 2026, the number of such incidents surged nearly twentyfold, reaching 4,312. Of the violations identified, 162 involved riders who lacked the necessary documentation or were under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Road Safety Service, the requirements for state license plates and driver's licenses for mopeds and scooters are not new. A government decree dated July 17, 2024, established specific license plates for these vehicles. While operating them previously required a Category A driver's license, the new regulations introduced the A1 sub-category. The Road Safety Service urged moped and scooter riders to observe traffic regulations and to hold the appropriate driving authorization for safe operation.
