Dozens of crocodiles escaped from a livestock farm in the south of the country during the floods that occurred after Typhoon "Haikui" in China. 75 crocodiles were released when the water of the lake overflowed the bank of the farm located in Guangdong province.

Some of the animals were captured alive, while others were shot or electrocuted by local authorities "for safety reasons".

According to state media reports, the fugitive animals have successfully evaded the government's ambush so far: only eight reptiles have been captured. Residents of nearby villages were asked to stay at home just in case.

Typhoon "Haikui" has been covering the southern regions of Asia for a week, it has already reached Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and some parts of China.

The typhoon was downgraded to a tropical storm. However, "Haikuy" has so far killed seven people and left three others missing. The typhoon also caused landslides and floods in southern China.

State media reported that no one was injured when the crocodiles escaped. However, officials acknowledged that some of the predators may be hiding in crowded water bodies. Rescuers are using sonar devices to search for them.

"The situation is now under control, but the number of escaped crocodiles is very high," said an official of the regional Emergency Management Bureau.

According to the bureau, 69 large crocodiles and six young crocodiles escaped from the farm. According to The Washington Post, the refugees are Siamese crocodiles. According to the Crocodiles of the World zoo in Great Britain, their length can reach three meters.

One of the firefighters who participated in the capture of the animals told the media that the average weight of the large crocodiles caught was about 75 kilograms, and the length was more than 2 meters. According to him, most of the captured animals were shot.

There are several crocodile farms in Maoming, Guangdong Province. They are raised for their skin and meat.
