6.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Venezuela

On September 25, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded in western Venezuela. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter was located 24 km from the city of Men-Grande at a depth of 7.8 km. So far, there are no reports of casualties or destruction, and no tsunami warning has been issued. Tremors were also felt in Caracas, Colombia, and the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire.

Venezuela lies on the southern boundary of the Caribbean Plate, making it a seismically active region. The country had not experienced a strong earthquake since 1997.
