52 people poisoned by gas on a train in Almaty

Fifty-two people were poisoned by carbon monoxide on a train at Almaty-2 railway station in Kazakhstan. Thirteen ambulance teams were dispatched to provide medical assistance. As a result of the poisoning, ten children were hospitalized, two of whom are in intensive care. All patients remain under medical supervision.

Initially, the incident was reported to be linked to natural gas. However, Kazakhstan’s national railway operator later stated that the poisoning was caused by carbon monoxide — a toxic gas produced by incomplete fuel combustion. The train belongs to a private carrier, and the railcars had been provided to a film studio for movie production.

According to witnesses, the victims were involved in the filming of a South Korean TV series. Due to cold weather, a gas burner was installed inside the railcar, after which people began to lose consciousness. An investigation into the incident is underway.
