🦣 In the summer of 2024, residents of the village of Batagay in the Verkhoyansky district of Yakutia found the remains of a mammoth cub, and the find was handed over to specialists for research. Scientists named the specimen Yana after the river flowing near the place where it was found. They consider it “one of the best mammoth carcasses found in the world.” The mammoth’s internal tissues were well preserved. It was 120 centimeters tall, more than 2 meters long, and weighed about 180 kilograms. Experts could not say how old Yana was, but they assumed that she was about a year old. The geological age is known to be 50 thousand years.
