$43.5 million of Gulnara Karimova's assets returned from Switzerland were directed to the development of the maternity and childhood protection system in Uzbekistan.
With this money, 231 perinatal institutions across the republic were equipped with modern medical equipment, more than 80,000 medical workers were trained, and new clinical protocols for providing medical care to mothers and babies were introduced.
According to official data, as a result of the project, preventable maternal deaths have significantly decreased, and the survival rate of premature babies has improved.
