3 tips that first-time ice skaters should know:

  1. Before standing up, place your skates in a “V” shape.
Bring your heels together. This position helps you stay stable and prevents your feet from slipping.

  2. Push off using the “scooter” method.
Bend your knees and point the toe of your back foot outward. Your skates should form a “T” shape. Push with your back foot, then bring both skates together. Repeat and glide forward.

  3. Use your knee as support when standing up after a fall.
After falling, don’t rush to stand up immediately. Get down on your knees and place your hands on the ice. Put one foot forward and use that knee as support to slowly stand up. When standing, keep your skates in a “V” shape.
