At least 15,000 people demonstrated in the capital of Malaysia in support of Palestine, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports.
According to the publication, the participants of the rally gathered around the central mosque in Kuala Lumpur after Friday prayers, supporting Palestine and condemning Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. They raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans, and also burned an Israeli flag in protest.
In order to support Muslims, prayers were recited in mosques across the country. One of the participants of the rally was the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin. He, along with other political figures, addressed the gathering.
"It doesn't matter which political party we belong to, we are united," said Muhyiddin Yassin.
According to the SCMP, Malaysia has been in contact with Hamas for many years. In particular, Malaysia hosted senior leaders of the organization in 2020.
