143 people were killed and about 200 injured as a result of the landslides that occurred in the Indian state of Kerala. July 31 was declared a day of mourning in the state. The incident was caused by the monsoon rains observed in the state on the night of July 30. About 600 rescuers from National Guard, Army, State Police, Forest Guards and volunteers are working in the area to evacuate people. The department is forecasting rain till August 2.
