€1 million for 99 years: Storage facilities for the wealthy in the Alps

Underground storage facilities designed to house valuables for the world's wealthiest individuals are being built in the Swiss Alps. They are intended to safeguard assets in the event of natural disasters, war, or other major catastrophes.

These facilities can store gold, cash, works of art, automobiles, and other high-value items. They are located within the Brünig Massif, at a depth of more than 100 meters underground. Construction began in January 2026, and the first units are expected to be ready for use in 2028.

The cost of using a single storage unit for 99 years can reach up to €1 million. Access to the complex requires passing through multiple security checkpoints. Storing narcotics or explosives is prohibited. The security level of the facilities is promised to match that of the Swiss National Bank's vaults.
