Massive wildfires in Hawaii have killed at least 115 people and left nearly 1,000 missing. This was reported by the Associated Press on August 23. As of Aug. 21, 115 people have been confirmed dead in the fire, according to police on Maui, Hawaii's hardest-hit island. Rescuers searched all one-story houses in the disaster area. The groups are inspecting high-rise residential buildings and commercial facilities. Between 1,000 and 1,100 people remain missing on the FBI's unconfirmed list. Hawaii authorities have urged relatives of the missing to provide DNA samples to speed up efforts to identify bodies found on the island. Two weeks after flames engulfed the resort town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, authorities were having trouble identifying victims, missing persons and those who had left the town, but did not report it.
