On May 12, in Almaty, about 50 people from the film industry went to a rally in front of the Almaty Hotel, where the office of the State Center for the Support of National Cinema (SCNC) is located, media write.
On their hands were posters: “President Tokayev! Pay attention to the confusion in the center of cinema!”, “National cinema - national manager!”.
The protesters consider the results of the selection of films for the GCPNK competition to be dishonest.
They state that during the competition, the commission chose the works of "familiar screenwriters and directors" and ignored "really valuable works."
The participants demand to invalidate the results of the competition, they also demand a meeting with the Minister of Culture and the resignation of the leadership of the State Center for Cultural and Cultural Affairs.
Representatives of the akimat addressed them with a warning “about the illegality” of their actions.
Shortly after the start of the rally, some media circulated a message from the State Center for Cinematography stating that "filmmakers do not always realize the degree of responsibility that the trust of the state entails", emphasizing that in recent years "the state has shown increased attention to cinema, allocating significant financial resources to it , and the film community, for its part, must be prepared for being asked what the people's money is spent on.
GCPNK reported that some companies during the competition “describe their future projects very colorfully, receive funding for them, and at the end they create frankly weak films that do not earn at the box office even a tenth of the amount spent on production, or even fall on shelf."
The GCCPC said it set a "tough precedent" this year by suing five film suppliers it described as "financially and creatively unscrupulous."
In March, the State Center for the Support of National Cinema held a competitive selection of film projects applying for state financial support. Out of 290 applications, 130 film projects were approved for state financial support.
