World Chess Championship in Astana: the first game of the match for the world chess crown ended in a draw

The 7 World Classical Chess Championship is being held in Astana from April 1 to May 2023. This was reported in the Kazakhstan Chess Federation. The leading athletes Yan Nepomniachtchi - the winner of the 2022 Candidates Tournament and Ding Liren, who took second place in this competition, will compete for the chess crown. Yesterday the first game of the match started. According to the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, on the 49th move, the opponents shook hands, agreeing to a draw. As previously reported, the tournament program will not be limited to matches for the world champion title, on April 17-19, Kazakhstani chess players will hold a series of rapid and blitz matches with the world team, for which famous foreign athletes will play. Now this sport is experiencing an unprecedented rise in Kazakhstan. Our champions conquer big tournaments, and in chess sections, inspired by these successes, more and more children are engaged. So, in 2022, more than 253 thousand people were systematically engaged in chess in 7618 sections throughout the republic, and since the beginning of the current academic year, this discipline has been introduced in 654 schools for almost 28 thousand children, as an elective," said Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Oralov.
