Turkmenistan represented at the summit of the International Transport Forum in Leipzig

Turkmenistan is represented at the annual summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF), which takes place in Leipzig, Germany, from 24 to 26 May.

A key event in the field of global transport policy is being chaired by the UK under the motto "Transport contributes to a sustainable economy". Through this lens, transport leaders, business leaders, heads of international organizations, parliamentarians and politicians, industry experts from around 80 countries discuss a wide range of topics, from climate change and supply chain resilience to active mobility.

The Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan became a participant in the ministerial and a number of meetings on the sidelines of the forum. In particular, negotiations were held between the Turkmen side and ITF Secretary General Yang Tae Kim, during which the possibility and benefits of Turkmenistan's accession to the ITF were considered.

The Secretary General of the organization was also informed about the promotion of Turkmen initiatives in the field of sustainable transport and the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the establishment of the International Day of Sustainable Transport. Yang Tae Kim was presented with the ITTC platform created by Turkmenistan - the conference "International transport and transit corridors", the next convocation of which was held on May 3-4 in Ashgabat. Promising joint projects with the ITF and interaction within the ECMT system (multilateral permit issued to the carrier among the countries participating in the European Conference of Ministers of Transport) were discussed.
Within the framework of the event, the Turkmen side also met with the Secretary General of the TRACECA program Asset Asavbaev, the main subject of which was the procedure for the country's entry into this organization. Issues of joint projects were also discussed with the Chairman of the OSJD Committee Miroslav Antonovich, including in the context of the agenda of the recent (May 15-18) OSJD forum in Ashgabat on the Common Transit Tariff and the International Railway Transit Tariff (ETT/MTT).
An agreement was reached on reconciliation of the legal framework of OSJD with Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan was invited to study the issue of joining the Treaty on the Rules for Settlements in International Passenger and Freight Railway Traffic.
