The meeting in Chisinau should be positively assessed from the point of view of the new realities of Azerbaijan - OPINION

"The informal meeting between President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron should be positively assessed in terms of the continuity of the dialogue environment and the new realities of Azerbaijan."

Deputy of the Milli Majlis Bahruz Maharramov told Report.

He recalled that the Brussels process was actually on the verge of collapse due to the destructive activities of France and was resumed only 7 months later, on May 14 of this year:

“But for the continuity of the process, the next contact was important, and the continuation of the dialogue within the framework of the summit of the European Political Community was of fundamental importance.

The second important point was the participation of Azerbaijan in this process with more opportunities than 7 months ago. Over the past period, the Azerbaijani army has fortified itself in important strategic positions without bloodshed and professionally conducted more than 10 operations. Also, despite all the international legal pressures, Azerbaijan exercised its sovereign rights and established a border checkpoint in Lachin. Ilham Aliyev managed to convey to the international community that the process of negotiations on the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace treaty and the issues of the Karabakh Armenians are completely different issues, the problem of the reintegration of Karabakh is an internal affair of Azerbaijan. Yesterday's position of Charles Michel, which he outlined to the media, does not raise questions in this area.”

Another important nuance of the meeting in Chisinau as the next stage of contacts on a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia was that the thesis of President Ilham Aliyev that 2023 is the year of the last chance for peace was accepted by all parties this time. This result was expressed in the decision of the parties to once again intensify negotiations on a peace treaty in Chisinau.

At the five-sided meeting, a position was expressed on intensifying the dialogue, and a decision was made to hold a trilateral meeting in Brussels on July 21. Also during this period, the foreign ministers will next meet in Washington to discuss the details of a peace treaty.”
