The CIS is preparing a draft statement on supporting and promoting the Russian language

ASTANA, September 9 - Sputnik. Experts from the CIS countries are developing a draft statement on the support and promotion of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication, the press service of the Commonwealth Executive Committee reported.

“An expert group meeting was held in Minsk to agree on a draft statement by the heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the support and promotion of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication,” the statement says.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the discussion of the document.

“The draft statement notes the importance of preserving and popularizing the unique linguistic, historical and cultural heritage of the CIS member states, states the importance of the Russian language in strengthening the common cultural and humanitarian space of the Commonwealth, reaffirms the commitment to the use of the Russian language in mutual contacts and on the platforms of international organizations and forums ", explained the press service.

The draft statement is planned to be adopted at the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS.
