From September 2022 to February 20 this year, a number of illegal actions were committed in Almaty and Astana against 6 journalists and bloggers, as well as 1 person associated with their activities," the report says. According to the police, the facts of intentional damage to real estate, arson of cars, threats by delivering various items to them, deliberately false reports of an act of terrorism at the addresses of the victims and the dissemination of personal data on the Internet were committed against the victims. An interdepartmental investigative and operational group has been created to solve these crimes. 20 criminal cases have been initiated and are being investigated under Article 115 "Threat", 147 "Dissemination of information about private life", 158 "Obstruction of journalistic activity", 202 "Intentional destruction of someone else's property",293 "Hooliganism" of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, all these facts have been disclosed, 18 persons involved in the commission of these crimes have been detained. The necessary investigative and operational actions are being carried out to consolidate the evidence base," the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed. As previously reported, Almaty police are investigating the explosion of two cars belonging to the operator of the journalist Boreyko. In addition, repeated attacks took place on the editorial office of the Elmedia publication, and threats came to employees. In November last year, two suspects were arrested in Almaty for hooliganism against journalists and damage to the property of the offices of the editorial offices of Elmedia KZ News and Оrda.kz . In January, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered a thorough investigation of a series of crimes against journalists.
