E. Muradova became the first female doctor of archeology in Turkmenistan

Scientist-archaeologist Ejegul Muradova successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Southwestern Turkmenistan during the early Iron Age (based on modern research)”, becoming the first woman in the history of the country to receive a doctorate in archeology.

The defense was held in front of the dissertation council of the National Department for the Protection, Study and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Ministry of Culture under the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. The dissertation became Muradova's life's work: a lot of effort and almost half a century was spent on research that took place at the Institute of History and Archeology of the Academy of Sciences.

For the first time, the researcher visited the excavations back in 1973, immediately after graduating from the Turkmen State University, under the guidance of scientists Yegen Atagarryev and Khemra Yusupov. The expedition to Shahrislam made an indelible impression on her, then she was able to discover her first finds in her life, the newspaper "Turkmenistan" reports.

In 1979, the scientist herself was able to lead the Benguvan expedition. The results of excavations and further research formed the foundation for the study of archaeological sites of the Eneolithic. She is actively working on unresolved issues that caused the ancient monuments of western Turkmenistan.

In the future, in order to achieve progress in the field of studying the history of Turkmenistan during the periods of the Bronze and Iron Ages, she conducts research on the monuments of Dandanakan, Kervensaray and Paryzdepe. Muradova's scientific works were published in Oxford, Paris, Madrid, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tehran, Kemerovo, Central Asian countries.

Since 2006, the archaeologist, in her free time from scientific activities, has been teaching the basics of archeology, paleography and numismatics at the Turkmen State Institute of Culture. In 2014, Muradova was awarded the Magtymguly Fragi medal, and in 2019 she became the winner of the Türkmeniň Altyn asyry competition.
