About 1.8 million Kazakhstanis will be affected by the increase in the minimum wage

ASTANA, Sep 6 - Sputnik. From January 1, 2024, the minimum wage will increase from 70 to 85 thousand tenge. Who will be affected by the increase, said the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.

First of all, the increase in the minimum wage will affect "low-paid" workers. Secondly, employers that use the minimum wage indicator when setting wages will also review the wages of other categories of workers, taking into account the inter-category system of qualifications.

Thanks to this, the cash income of about 1.8 million employees working in all industries at enterprises of various forms of ownership, including about 350 thousand state employees, will increase.

In Kazakhstan, the size of the minimum wage increases annually, starting from 2022. Taking into account the next increase from January 1, 2024 to 85 thousand tenge, the size of the minimum wage for three years will be increased by 2 times, the department added.

It is noted that the size of the minimum wage will be determined based on the median wage and labor productivity.
