A plant with a capacity of 2 million tons of “green” hydrogen will be built in Kazakhstan in 2027
It is planned to complete the preparation of documents for the construction project of a green hydrogen production plant in western Kazakhstan in 2026, said Svevind Energy Group CEO Wolfgang Kropp at a meeting with President Tokayev, Akorda reported.
Kropp informed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about the start of preliminary design and survey work (Pre-FEED) within the framework of the Investment Agreement signed during the visit of the President of the European Council Charles Michel to Kazakhstan last year, the presidential press service added.
The project, noted in Akorda, involves the construction and operation of a desalination plant, a station of renewable energy sources with a capacity of 40 gigawatts - we are talking about wind and sun.
In addition, as part of the project, they plan to build a water electrolysis plant with a capacity of 20 gigawatts with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons of “green” hydrogen or 11 million tons of “green” ammonia, the press service noted. The preliminary investment amount is more than 50 billion euros.
The head of Svevind Energy Group said that the start of infrastructure construction is planned for 2027, and commissioning in 2032.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the implementation of the Hyrasia One project is of strategic importance for the country. The project, the head of state is confident, will become a flagship for the development of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan.
