Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced a restructuring of the system for managing, financing, and producing films. Under the new arrangement, these functions will be separated from one another.
The Cinematography Agency will be abolished, and the authority to implement state policy in the film sector will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture. A Department of Cinema Arts will be established within the Ministry, with its head holding a status equivalent to that of a Deputy Minister. Officials have been given one month to organize the department’s operations and dissolve the entities previously under the Agency.
Furthermore, the state institution "Uzbekfilm" will be dissolved and replaced by a new national film company, also named "Uzbekfilm," which will operate based on a modern business model.
The new film company will not be involved in the actual production of films; film creation will be shifted entirely to the private sector. Instead, the company will focus on selecting and financing film projects, promoting and distributing finished films, and facilitating their entry into international markets and film festivals.
The President emphasized that the new film company is intended to develop the national cinema brand and serve as a central hub for the modern film industry. The new system aims to integrate the entire process—from film production to reaching the audience—into a unified framework. Instructions were given to get the national film company up and running within a week.
