Rufat Riskiev, who had been battling a serious illness, has passed away. A legend of Uzbek boxing, Riskiev became world champion in 1974 and won a silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games.
After retiring from boxing, he remained involved in the sport and became the first international-category professional boxing referee in Central Asia.
