A statue of Alisher Navoi was opened in Ankara
A grand opening ceremony of the statue of the great Turkish poet and thinker Alisher Navoi was held in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. This important event is dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence.
The ceremony was attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, TURKSOY international cultural organization, Ankara city and district administration, rectors of Turkish universities, linguists, as well as representatives of the city community.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Azamkhodjayev thanked the former mayor of Kechioren district Turgut Altinok, the current mayor Mesut Ozarslan, as well as the head of Alisher Navoi Research Center of Bashkent University Professor Abdurahmon Gozal for their contribution to the installation of the statue of the great poet.
During the event, on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the important work carried out on the in-depth study of the heritage of Alisher Navoi and its popularization both in Uzbekistan and abroad was highlighted. In 2021, the International Award named after Alisher Navoi was established within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as the international public fund named after Alisher Navoi. In order to popularize the Uzbek language, culture and traditions, it is planned to open the International Institute named after Alisher Navoi and its foreign branches.
Statues of Alisher Navoi have already been installed in Moscow, Dushanbe, Astana, Tokyo, Minsk, Shanghai, Seoul and Baku.
Excerpts from the poet's rubai and ghazals were read as part of the ceremony, and "mushoyira" poetry discussions were also organized.
